You know what your favourite colour is, but do you know its significance? Colours are almost like secret agents. They have hidden meanings and symbolisms that aid what you create. So here is a guide to colour theory to get you started!

First things first, we must understand the colour wheel.

The colour wheel is a circle that has all the colour combinations. It holds primary colours (red, yellow and blue) and secondary colours (orange, green, violet). Not forgetting the tertiary colours (red-orange, yellow-orange, red-violet, blue-violet, blue-green and yellow-green). Normally, people reference this wheel when pairing their clothes together or when they want to find cohesive colours for their art pieces.

A creative tip to note; colours opposite each other in the wheel go beautifully together! Try pairing red and green, or blue and orange and watch the magic happen!

Next up – colour temperature! Colours can also be put in a warm and cold spectrum. Reds, oranges and yellows are warm colours that make your art feel cosy. Whereas blues, greens and violets are cool colours which can make it feel chilly.

Having understood the above, let us talk about what different colours symbolize:
